Finnigan's Banquet Venue, 503 E. 18th Avenue
This month's speaker will be Tom Cook presenting "The Benefits of Employee Engagement, and How to Get Started." Harrah's of North Kansas City had the lowest Employee Opinion scores in the entire company in 2005. Additionally, from 2002-2006 financial performance and customer service scores were lower than expected. By the end of 2010, Harrah’s North Kansas City was Voted “Best Place to Work in Kansas City” by the Kansas City Business Journal. Additionally, the NKC location was one of only two properties in the corporation to improve their bottom line results in each of the last 4 years, and is on track to accomplish this again in 2011. Come hear their story, take a tip or two back to your organization, and improve results through attention to your employees!

From… Pat’s Pub
We have another 2nd generation business who would like to highlight! Thirty years ago this August, Pat Kaser opened Pat's Pub at 1229 Swift. Eighteen years ago, the business relocated one block up the street to 1315 Swift. Pat fulfilled her dream of being a bar owner and she has now been serving NKC her homemade style of food and hospitality for 30 years. As of July 1, Kim Kaser & Bruce Gaston officially took over the bar and will continue the Pat’s Pub tradition in NKC. However, you can still catch glimpses of Pat around the bar -- rumor has it that she will continue to work lunches in the kitchen! If there are other 2nd or 3rd generation businesses, we would like to include your story too! Email me at ltate@nkcbusinesscouncil.com with a few sentences about your business and I will include it in my next e-newsletter!
From… Colorado Technical University
You may remember an email blast back in May regarding CTU Kansas City partnering with Harvesters to donate supplies for Joplin, Missouri. Thanks to the initiative of CTU and the generosity of their students, faculty, staff, and the NKC community, the drive was a success. Several hundred pounds of items were donated from students, faculty and staff. The Student Senate donated $500.00 worth of products, and the North Kansas City Business Council called on its 200+ members to join in on the efforts, which brought in additional items. Due to the abundance of items, Harvesters had to deliver more barrels in order to transport the donations!
Congratulations to… Brian Hughes of Leisure World Pool & Hearth
The North Kansas City Business Council would like to congratulate Brian Hughes on his graduation from the University of Missouri Kansas City Bloch EMBA Program! Though we already knew of his achievement, we were reminded of it when we saw his name and face in the photo of the UMKC Bloch EMBA graduating class on page 10 of the latest Kansas City Business Journal.

Trivia, Trivia, Trivia!
Thank you to Screenland Armour for sponsoring this (and the last two) trivia questions! Be the first to answer correctly and receive 2 movie passes to the Screenland Armour Theater, which I have on my desk right now! I will notify the winner and then send the answer out to everyone!
Question: What is the name of the farm who is a long time vendor with the NKC Farmer’s Market and who was recently featured in the most recent Business Council Going North printed newsletter? Good luck!
