Recap from Yesterday’s Business Focus Forum:
Uses of Social Networking to Improve Business Results
Yesterday’s presentation on social media by Dan Vick was an extremely helpful look at how and why social media can be used to improve business results. Here is the list of social media that Dan Vick recommended that businesses – large and small – should embrace to improve their sales effectiveness with very little cost except time invested:
- Website that is accessible by smart phones
- Facebook fan page
- Google Place profile
(causes business name to appear on Google Maps – allows address, hours, etc to be displayed – can mark location exactly where it should be) - Linked-In – good for professional networking
- Yelp profile
- Foursquare profile
- Twitter – 140 character limit is a good model, even for e-mail messages
- QR codes – can display “website” for property or product where found

We have another 2nd generation business who would like to highlight! William L. Brown Sr. DDS graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1942. He attended Wentworth Military Academy and graduated from UMKC School of Dentistry in 1947. Bill Brown Sr. practiced dentistry in North Kansas City from 1947 to 1994. His daughter, Julie, who graduated from NKC High School, practiced Dental Hygiene in his office beginning in 1973. William L. Brown Jr. DDS also attended NKC High School and began practicing dentistry in 1972 as the office expanded. Claudia (Poteet) Brown is currently the office manager. The Brown family has always appreciated the small town character of North Kansas City which has produced many special friendships with patients and acquaintances. If there are other 2nd or 3rd generation businesses, we would like to include your story too! Email me at ltate@nkcbusinesscouncil.com with a few sentences about your business and I will include it in my next e-newsletter!
From… North Kansas City Hospital
Northland Emergency Center at North Kansas City Hospital plans to start a $16 million expansion project this month that will provide all private rooms, renovate existing space, redesign the flow of patient services and include a dedicated scanner for emergency care when complete in February 2013. Construction on the Northland Emergency Center will enlarge the area from the current size of 18,000 square-feet to a new total of 30,800 square-feet. “Because North Kansas City Hospital is one of the busiest emergency departments in the Kansas City area, we believe the expansion and renovation is vital to ensure the availability and access to emergency services for our community,” says President and CEO David Carpenter. Currently, the Northland Emergency Center is one of the busiest ERs in the Kansas City area. Patient visits numbered over 65,000 last year. With the expansion, the new area is designed to accommodate over 80,000 patients. For more information contact Kim Shopper, Marketing Services, at (816) 691-3023 or at kim.shopper@nkch.org.
